Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies rescued a 14-year-old boy hanging on to wreckage in front of a grocery store in Tampa after he couldn't get home after the storm.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, Florida deputies rescued a teenage boy Thursday who was clinging to debris in deep floodwaters.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office released video footage of the rescue on social media. In the footage, a shirtless 14-year-old boy is seen in front of a Tampa grocery store, perched on floating wreckage from the storm.

"Stay there," a deputy on a boat is heard telling the boy. "We'll come to you. Be careful."

Sheriff Chad Chronister told WFLA-TV that the teen had been staying at a friend's house during the hurricane. Once the storm had passed, he headed home but wasn't prepared for how deep the floodwaters were.

"It was literally out of a castaway movie, him laying on top of a fence, waving us, out of breath, gasping for air as we pulled him up," said Chronister.

The deputies were able to get the teen to safety, and he was able to return home.
